Hey guys,

Early on when the chicks got ill, we had lots of discussion about the crummy brooder I was given and too hot vs too cold etc. I have been paying very close attention to the temps and the chicks behavior.

They are supposed to be 4 weeks old now but I am noticing that they sleep where the brooder is about 82-84 degrees. They like that low 80's range to hit the middle of the booder and lay just on the edge of the light. If I go by charts, they huddle under the light as if cold. The have plenty of room that no light touches that they could cool off but the only chick that has ever ventured to the far end of the brooder is the Lola the silkie.

Now, they sleep like they are too warm, all sprawled out with wings open, no panting but they are obviously "cooling it". They have been very ill but are much better now. I just don't want to create any new problems by goofing up with the heat. Is it possible that they are younger than I am told?. If you guys can reference pics in mt other threads and let me know your thoughts on the whole heat situation I would be very appreciative.
