If I just leave a chicken in the hen house and don't care if she's broody, will something bad happen to her? Will she snap out of it on her own? Will the other chickens peck her? HOw long will it take before she's done with this? will being with the others make them go broody too? I'm not 100% sure she's broody, but she's sitting in that nest box like she's in a trance, and there was an egg under her so she's not egg bound and she doesnt look sick.
answers anyone?
thanks

She might "snap out of it", or she may just keep on brooding. I have seen people give the advice to put her in a cage up off the ground with only food and water, no bedding. This will allow air flow under her and keep her underside cool. This along with no nest or eggs may help break her of it. Chances are good if you just leave her she will want to sit tight on her egg/eggs.

Taking away eggs may not stop it either; use the cage without nesting described already, if you want to break her. No, she won't make others go broody. But she could stay broody for 2-3 months, and lose a lot of weight, or worse. Leave her in the cage without bedding for a few days.
