Hi! I am awaiting a hatch of ducklings. Once they hatch is a heat lamp like the one in the pic I posted ok? I do not have one of those brooding heat lamps that go low to the ground for them to huddle under and rise as they grow. TIA!
Make sure you have a hot side and a cool side of your brooder - especially with the way the weather has been, and especially moreso if they won't be in air conditioning.
I am running a 75 watt reptile heater. Goes into the same fixture, but gives only heat and no light.
The heat plates are super awesome and I am glad I have one of those too.
Another super handy tool is one of the handheld pyrometers that you can get for a reasonable price at Harbor Freight. Surface temperature of the brooder box floor is fine between 92 to 111 degrees.
