A while ago we decided to let our broody hen sit on eggs, but we're getting a little concerned. She started out with seven, but a couple days before the first one was set to hatch I found a partially crushed completely empty egg sitting in front of her with no baby around. I didn't think much of it at the time, but then we found a most likely crushed chick in her nest that looked like it had died while getting out of its egg. It was fully formed and looked like it was supposed to hatch, but it looked like something had put so much pressure on it that its intestines had been squeezed out its vent. Has anybody else had a broody hen that did this? Was it a birth defect? What should we do? Thanks in advance!
