I have a hen who is sitting on about 2 dozen eggs. The weather is changing, getting in the 50's at night. Do I need to provide heat for my chickens? I've never raised chickens before and need alot of advice. Thanks!

from Washington State!

What breeds do you have and what type of coop?

They have an open pen with just boxes to lay in, I moved the hen and eggs today, cause I found that when she got down to eat others were cracking her eggs. She is now in a separate cage (like a dog kennel) covered with a tarp and a light. At first she was very upset but in a hour or so she settled right down and is laying happily with her eggs. Its going down to 34 degrees tonight, so i took the risk.Wish me luck! Thanks for your help.

I dont know the name of the breed... yea I'm that new at this, but she is all black. She has about 20 eggs left. Maybe some of the other hens laid some? I dont know.
