I currently have a Welsumer hen sitting on some eggs. I have not checked how many or what other breed eggs are under her. She is still in the coop with the other chickens. It is going on day 7 should I candle the eggs, and should I separate her from the others? I have a Welsumer rooster in with them. Will I need to separate him from them when the chicks hatch?

Any input would be appreciated.

well I tried moving the eggs twice-- we have first year hens (new to all this as we are).... in both circumstances the mom ran off but did return to sit on the eggs. The first time I just put a clutch of eggs from a nest in the bushes under a broody hen in the coop, came home 3 days later to find the original hen sitting on the eggs in the coop and the other broody on the floor of the coop on a crushed egg-- so I moved her and 6 of the eggs (from the clutch from the bushes, out from the other hen) to a dog crate-- and the next morning I opened the door to check on her (she was setting faithfully all nite) -- and she ran out to drink water (it will hit 103 degress today) and then left and did nt come back so.... I put the eggs back with the rest into the nest box.....

My hens like the nest box. Second hen came back and now is sitting back on all the eggs.... SIGH. This chicken thing is SOOOOO nerve racking.

I wont move the eggs again.
