Some of female chicks seem to lay down more than others do you think they will end up being brooding hens when they are older and how can one tell?
I don't think laying down guarantees anything other than that they're lazy:p. Broodiness is induced by hormones, theoretically any female can go broody, but they're much too young.

Some breeds go broody more easily and haven't had it breed out of them(these breeds can still go broody, it's just rare). What breeds do you have, because if you want broodies I'd recommend a Japanese bantam or silkie.
