brooding on wire?

i am currently brooding in big rubbermaid tubs in my living room and am wanting to move these stinky things outside..... wanting to get thoughts on wire floored brooders... I am thinking of building something iside my coop to house these stinkers up off the ground.. that way no more messing with the shavings in the brooders.... what are some pros and cons to wire floors??? I am hatching from 10-40 chicks every other week along with ducklings and turkeys.....

I do not use wire floors so cannot give pros/cons but I know others do. I worry about foot pain being on the wire, but that is probably just me. Givin' you a bump.

I have been raising 10 for 9 days and it works, my setup is a wooden brooder box I made 2 wide 2 tall and 4 long with hardware cloth for flooring , now I do put a piece of cardboard down for them to get off the wire and just change it out as needed. and I also have a lid from a 5 gal bucket own with a little food on it. they seem to love it when I put them in there.

I have 3 Chick-n-Hutches from TSC for our 22 chicks....BUT I did not put any on the wire til they were at least 4 weeks old and I supplied them with cardboard under the heat lamp to lie and sun themselves. Still put cardboard in so they have a spot to get off the wire as well as having their shoebox of sand. I am using sand in the tray; scoop every day to help with the stink and flies.

We have the hutches on our enclosed porch until we can get their coop/run finished...DH just came in this morning...hope to work on it the next 3 days before he leaves town again. Putting a privacy fence up as the back wall of the run to protect them from kids with BB/pellet guns who go up and down our alley.

I'm on the western edge of Central Texas.
