Hi y’all! We are super loving growing these baby chicks! I am using a brooder plate and it’s getting to its higher adjustment. The chicks are 3 weeks old. When do you remove the brooder plate for good? Do you put something else in the brooder for them to nest in? Thanks!!

Where are you brooding; in house or out?
Where are you located; temps range at night/day?

I went the MHP route; my frame height is adjustable as it's welded wire transitioning to a "huddle" box (cardboard box, upside down, cut out entrance & back door) when they're about 3 - 4wks.

I’m brooding indoors, but they are going to live with my in laws and I think they plan to move the little guys outdoors pretty quickly. We are about 40s at night and 60-80 in the days coming up.

I unplug my brooder plate sometime between 3.5 to 4.5 weeks, depending on how feathered out they are. My chicks get brooded in my basement with a steady 60f ambient temp. I leave the brooder plate in for a few more days, as they like the safety of running under it and the fun of flying off of it.
