My hen laid 16 eggs. She started two weeks ago. How long will it be before she starts brooding.

Hello and Welcome To BYC! What breed is she? Just because she is laying eggs doesn't mean she will necessarily go broody, while some breeds like Silkies or Cochins go broody quite often, some breeds will never go broody, and others will only go occasionally. she went broody in March she had 12 eggs. They were taken from her by a predator in my yard so I do know that she does brood.

by the way she is losing some feathers does anybody know why that happened

Your chickens look like Light Brahma.

Is she losing feathers any place in particular? She could be molting, the rooster could be taking them off when he mates with her, some hens will strip the feathers from their undersides when they are broody, double check to be sure she doesn't lice or mites etc that could be causing feather loss.

I think the chicken breed is a Delaware because brahmas have feathered feet and that bird doesn't. I may be wrong though!
