Broodng five-year old hens that never brooded before

Has anyone ever had this experience or understand this, because I have no clue

I have seven hens ranging in age from 4 to 8 years old.

Two of the 5-year old's are brooding. They never did before? So, is this common?

Strange stuff going on around my place.

Some people claim that the older a hen gets, the more likely she is to go broody. That might be why.

Wow--didn't know that. This is the first time this has happened to me in all the years I've kept chickens. I've never had chicks hatched here as that I don't have a rooster. Too close to neighbors.

Interesting. Something always new to learn here....even after all this time.
