I think that they can hatch even if they are left for a day. As long as they are incubating now I would think they could hatch.

Of my current broodies I had one sit on a nest, hatch one chick, leave. Then the next day another hen took her turn and hatched hers. Then another hen got her chicks. I'm not sure how long the eggs were cold, but probably for at least a day.

OMG!!!! I checked on them this morning.. no peeps. I just went out and this is what I found...

There are three chicks that I can see. They are all dried off as you can see. I found one chick dead on the coop floor.. probably got to by another chicken. I locked everyone out currently. Gotta transfer mommas and chicks somewhere safe. I do not know if anymore are hatching, but I guess I'll find out soon when I transfer. I'd rather wait until night, but I have 7 hens locked out of the coop right now.

All three took to the chicken food and the water I just put in there! Seem to be doing well! Me so happy!

They are doing AWESOME!!! They are in and out of the coop with their two moms. It is a bit chilly but they seem to be doing just fine, taking warm up rests under their moms. Both moms are doing great although I think the wyndotte spends more time with them. I'd say 100% vs 90%, so that is awesome! Here is a recent picture. They are about 1.5 weeks old in the photo. The black one is coming in all black as far as I can see. One of the yellow ones has green legs and the other has feathering on it's legs.. partridge color feathering, so I cannot wait to see what they look like when they get bigger. If anything, the black one has less feathers, but not by much. (Trying to figure out gender will be fun... haha!) I do not know the breeds so interesting! Thanks for asking!

Awwww, they're adorable! Figuring out what insane kind of mutt they are is always fun, and then the mutts grow up and make babies then you get all their crazy recessive genes and such. Some of mine can be traced back to their great-grandparents and others I'm stumped on who their parents are! The Wyandottes are really good mamas, and I would have to agree that they spend the most time with their babies.
