Yesterday I put some day old chicks under my Buff Orpington who has been aggressively broody, and I believe she's accepted them. However, it's her first time getting any chicks, what milestones should I be looking for? At what point should she be leaving the nest with them to walk around or show them food?

Hi! Two days or so 💗 once they run out of egg yolk from hatching they should be eating and drinking. Congratulations! Post pics!

I'll have to wait for pictures, she's still suuuuper upset at me for the week I spent trying to break her of being broody - she orbs up when I approach and makes warning noises 🤣 One day this past week when I tried to do it I sat down in an outside chair and she hopped up and tried to peck my face and then settled for aggressively pecking my shoulder instead.

I moved the chick food and chick water closer to the nest, is that a good practice or should I leave it where it normally is in the coop/run?

Leave it where it normally is. Sometimes if they find food and water close they're inclined to stay in the nest

I would tap the food and sprinkle it on the dish with your fingers to get the chicks to eat if you see she's not bringing them to the feed. Mine took too long, babies poop was getting green.

Looks like I don't have to worry! She got them walking around and through a hawk attack!
