Hi,
Our Buff started sitting in the nesting box yesterday and today she was still in there while the other chix were out running about. Normally, the Buff runs outside first and comes in last.
So, I pulled the nesting box forward into the sun while she was getting a drink and there was a broken egg there. The egg shell was floppy like a punctured balloon.
So I brought the failed egg in its box into the house. Now, she still wants to hang out in the coop near the other nesting box.
Is she upset because her egg broke? She is by far the most melodramatic, weirdly behaving of our chix, but we still want her to be as happy as possible.
I am giving them all a boost in calcium. We grind up the egg shells and put the tiny pieces in grain and seed dinners. I think I will give them some yoghurt also.
So my comment is 2-fold: 1. broken soft egg shell; 2. Buff's behavior.
