I have a 1.5yr old Cochin who has been on and off the nest 3 times in the last month but never completely commits šŸ˜ž She has even growled at me for opening the curtain on her nest box while she was in it. Do they work up to it ? Should I just let the eggs accumulate for a couple days ? Is it because there is too much going on outside the box ? This is my first time with a hen with broody behavior so i have no idea what the issue may be . I try to just ignore the fact that everyone is telling me cochins are fabulous mommas and love going broody and then i go out to the coop and there she is flat out in her box and growling like a wild animal and I am sooo excited and 24 hours later she is off with the rest of the flock , eggs forgotten.

It can take them a while to really commit to brooding. Do you have some fake eggs (I use golf balls) to put under her while she is not committed? Then you can give her fresh eggs when she is really ready to sit.
