This is the second year of laying for the hens and last year they both raised 14 poults each. I have been taking eggs for the bator but for the past 4 weeks ive been leaving them in the nest. all they do is lay on them for the entire day then get off in the afternoon. why wont they stay on the nest?

They're just not ready to set yet. It's a hormonal thing that triggers in them to make them want to commit to sitting on those eggs...leaving the eggs in the nest box doesn't (in my opinion) encourage that to happen. They'll do it when they're ready and you're least expecting it

Just keep a stash of eggs on hand at all times just for that moment.

Good luck!
