My broody has been sitting on viable (or at least fertilized eggs) for ten days. My mom told me I could take her off the nest to have a poop and a dust bath while the other girls were out of the run and so I could do some things inside the coop. So I did and she is out having a dust bath and preening. Mom says she will go back to the eggs and its fine. She has had access to part of the run and hasn't left the coop. I have just been leaving her alone, giving her fresh water and food in the coop. Do I need to do this periodically and if so how often? Just looking for other opinions.

I think it all depends on the hen and the chicken owner. Some don't intervene at all, so just offer food and water and extra protein and some take their chicks off the nest daily.

Some chickens will break and some won't.

I just had a broody, she has 5 five day old chicks. I had to take her off every morning or she wouldn't eat, drink or poop. She came back within 10 min.

She is eating and drinking but she hasn't pooped that I can find thats why Mom said to put her off the nest for a break.

She should get off the nest daily on her own.
She is getting up to eat and drink but there is no broody poop anywhere. Maybe I just haven't found it but I'm not sure how I would miss it haha
