Broody Breeds

My Little EE hen I got at a trade day likes to set. (she's a lighter EE, so I'm thinking she's crossed with a phionex(sp) or something bc of her beautiful long tail)
Hearing about all these dual purpose breeds going broody has made me felt a lot easier. I used to think that pretty much none of the standards go broody anymore, after many failed attempts!

Silkies! I have four broodies right now, and maybe a fifth deciding to go broody!

American Game Fowl can't be beat for a good broody.
Once they get there mind set there is no stopping them, they will still a nest of eggs just to hatch a clutch of eggs..

I have a mixed flock. I have 3 Buff Orpington/white leghorn crosses, they are about 8 months old now. I had 2 go broody within 21 days of each other. First one hatched me 8 chicks first weekend in March, second hatch is due Easter weekend.
They are good setters, the first one very protective, so I will wear protective gear if I need to remove a chick. She taught me that when she took some of my flesh.

I also just purchased some silkie chicks, for breeding and brooding purposes.

My preferance leans toward standard Cochins, but not allowed to have any birds where I live. I do start chicks under the radar in a basement, garage, or spare bedroom when ever I get the chance but can only keep them until they are ready to leave the brooder.

The only one's I've ever had go broody on me were my Silkies and they were little broody machines!
