Yep, got broody buff-O that needs some jail time.
I'm going to build a jail cell in the roofed armored run. what size? I know off the ground, wire bottom with only food water and a roost
But ?X?. I can put it on the end next to the roost so she will be close to her sisters at night but the nests are also by the roost.

What? Nobody from the Dept. Of Chicken Corrections has seen this yet? LOL I have to build a jail cell today. I got first degree felony violations, withholding eggvidence, obstruction of nesting, assault on an egg collector, violating noise ordnance, resisting arrest …

I was asleep last night, need all the beauty sleep I can get. And it is a week-end. People aren't on company time so they may not be as available to respond as quickly as you'd like. Next time ask a little earlier.

Seriously, if all you want is a broody buster all you need is room for her, food and water. I don't know how you plan to provide food and water, that may drive your size. You are not there to make her happy or entertain her. She really doesn't need much room. A 2' x 2' would probably be big enough, if you have room for food and water.

If you had time to plan I'd suggest you build it for other purposes too. My main broody buster is actually my built-in brooder in the coop. It's 3' x 6' with a wire bottom. I've had as many as three broodies at a time in there.

I don't isolate my broodies when I want them to hatch, but if you do you could make it big enough to put a removable nest in there to isolate a broody while she is incubating. Just put some plywood or cardboard on the wire floor so she has a solid floor. If you integrate chicks or chickens in the future you build it big enough for that. Lots of options.

But if all you want is a broody buster for one hen, make it pretty small.

LOL I know its short notice. Its going to rain Sunday and Monday so I need to get started. Mostly want to get it right before cutting wire. Measure twice cut once.
I'll use 2x4 animal wire for the sides and hang food and water out side. 1/2" HC bottom. I'm not able to have but a few chickens in town so raising babies or not in my future.
My hospital is a large dog crate I set up as needed in the garage. But its being used at the moment with my large new puppy Sweet Pea, American bulldog. four months old 33lbs. She is going to be big.

Doesn't have to be terribly big, big enough to fit food and water and to comfortably turn around in. Honestly for broody breaking I use whatever I have around - the brooder (ironic) which is about 2x4ish or a dog exercise pen which has held and broken 2 broodies at same time (4x4).

Our chicken jail is just an old wire rabbit cage around 2ft x 3ft with a feeder and waterer tied to the wall so they can’t spill. I just put it in the run propped up on some bricks. Had to use it on all 5 of our Cochins this year

My breaker crate is 24"L x 18"W x 21"H.
1x2 floor lets most the poops fall thru.
Tho not necessary a chunk of 2x4 for a 'roost' was added to crate floor after pic was taken.

DCC...love the acronym! I have one in jail for disorderly conduct and assault on the young ones I’m trying to integrate. Unfortunately, I think she’s going to be a repeat offender until they all mature enough to beat the snot out of her and put her in line. I’ll support that citizen action.
