Two days ago I noticed my broody chicken had pushed an egg out of her nest. I left it, intending to come back later and get it. First mistake. This morning I noticed her water had spilt sometime and she had eaten the egg. Oh boy. Did I cause an egg eater? Will she have a future problem eating eggs or was this a one time fluke due to either rotten egg or thirst? Please tell me I didn't destroy her and now have a permanent issue!!

She's fine. I've seen broodies eat their eggs before. Assuming they were rotten or not fertilized to begin with. I've had a few broodies and the one broody I had that did not eat eggs--- had an egg explode under her and ruined the whole nest box

. It's just nature's way of taking care of problems. Good luck and keep us posted

I was thinking myself maybe they eat the bad ones. I had 8 under her yesterday at day 18 and only 6 were under her today.
