Good morning backyard chickeners,

this is my second year having chickens and I have had a broody two years in a row and I decided this year and I was going to extend my flock I want baby chickens and the same broody hen went broody at the same time. so I decided to put baby chicks under her after 20 days. We bought five baby chicks and she hasn't taken really well care of them there are still eggs under her and she has not got off the eggs or nest. she has not really taking them out at all there about a week old now and she hasn't hopped off of the eggs that haven't hatched and my question is should I move her she still in the flock she's still in the coop with the other chickens the other chickens haven't harmed the baby chicks I am wondering what I should do is there any advice?

The reason she is not taking the chicks off the nest to eat and drink is likely BECAUSE there are still eggs under her to hatch.
Usually when adding chicks you remove any eggs, then she knows she is done and will focus on rearing the chicks she has.
If you have eggs under her partially incubated, please put them in an incubator to finish them.
The opimal way this would have been done is when her eggs hatched, THAT was the time to give her day old hatchery chicks.
The chicks you have give her need to have access to chick feed and water ASAP.

Thank you. I have chick crumble and water with vitamins in the coops with her. We have moved her out of the coop (from the other full grown chickens) and placed her in a coop with her chicks so she can focus on them. We also removed the eggs. We have fresh alfalfa as she likes that a lot. We also have feed and water outside as well in multiple areas in the 1/10 acher the 4 full grown chicks are in and 5 baby chicks.
We are hopeful as she has gotten up to defecate once already which is more then she has done for some time. I feel bad for her. I hope she takes them out tomorrow I will update soon.

She took one under her wing but she was brutal to the others. In fact I had to separate them she pecked them so much that one passed over the rainbow bridge. I have a heat lamp set up with lots of food and water in my garage. It's not the way I wanted to go but I don't want her to kill anymore. She has accepted one but our family will be taking care of the three. I will intigrate them in a coop outside in about 6 weeks closed off from the others but so they can see them. Most of my hens are older they are at the end of there prime. So I want to give them a bit more time

Thank you so much for all your help! Any tips for two separate flocks?
