Broody chicken wants to nest outside

After reading this thread I'm not sure how many broody hens you have in how many nests wherever they might be with however many eggs. What a saga. And some people think keeping chickens is boring.

For some reason I thought I already replied to this. Just want to say that I found it very helpful! This whole thing was kind of an accidental experiment in brooding chicks with a hen so I definitely did a bunch of things wrong. But at least I know for next time, now.

Even after 35+ years, chicken keeping is an ongoing learning experience.

I tried to break the broodiness of 'helper hen' the last couple days but she is determined to sit on nothing... so I gave her 3 light sussex/cross eggs (the light sussex hen has a sweet nature, so hopefully the chicks get that too). And I even marked them this time :) so things won't get out of hand. I got enough chick crumb for about 10 chicks so it would get wasted anyway.

I am moving a small enclosed coop tomorrow for the hen and her chicks - currently they are in the main coop but I don't want the chicks to get accidentally squashed or something when chickens are going up and onto the roosts at night.
