Broody Chicken?

i've been searching the web for 3 days now and NO one has the answer i need......

How often do Silkies go broody?

What age do Silkies (on average) start to go broody?



my silkie started laying eggs 2 months ago and she is now 1 year old and has yet to go broody

There isn't a set formula - some hens go broody more than others. Silkies are famous [or notorious?] for going broody often but that doesn't mean every one of them will and that they will all do it with the same frequency. On the other hand, production layers are far less likely to go broody but of all the hens I've had over the years, my BSL is the only one to have ever gone broody.

I've been trying for the past few days to "encourage" them to go broody.... i realize thats as much as i can do, but hopefully i will get rewarded in the spring
