If you have had any broodies out of the following, White Rocks, Black Australorps, New Hampshire Reds, and Buff Orpingtons. Please tell which hatchery you got them from and how they were. Thanks BB

I've had:

2 Barred Plymouth Rocks, 1 from a breeder, 1 from Strombergs (who is a drop-shipper, so no idea which hatchery it came from)
1 Australorp, she sat for 3 months
2 Buff Orpingtons- Ideal hatchery

I have two BA's from Cackle. Both went broody when they were a little less than a year and a half old. One did a great job and raised 15 incubator hatched chicks free ranging and with very little help from me. I've had to help the other one a few times or she would not still have her 4 chicks. This one is just not very bright.

Just what I was wanting to hear. Cackle is my main supplier. Thanks both of you!!

I have a Black Australorp from Ideal. She just turned two in September and went broody for the first time in October. Unfortunately, the only egg to develop in her clutch didn't make it (died around day 15 for some reason). She was a very diligent mother though.

I had 3 BA's go broody, hatch and raised all of their chickies. I broke maybe 4 or 5 more, they were easy to breakof being broody. I have 3 BO sitting as we speak. I could not break them..........

. I don't really want them hatching this late in the year. All of my chicks came from McMurray.
