This is second time this little gal has gone broody - after putting post on Nextdoor in my n'brhood - I was told to "lock her up" which I did - for 2 days. She shaped up for a very short while - now she's doing it again, so I put her in my shower for 2 nites & let her out this afternoon. Any advice aside from selling or giving her away? I got her in April when she was around 2 months' old. Thank you

Well, 3 days in my shower seems to have worked - she's running with the other girls and i think she even laid an egg yesterday. Hard to tell since I have two copper marans - thnx to all who responded.

Hens with strong broody instincts will continue to go broody. Generally it takes longer than 2 days to break broodiness. Sometimes allowing a hen to raise a brood will extend the period between broody episodes.

Most of my chickens are Hy-Lines, a hybrid breed. Interestingly though one of them, Clover, went broody after her first clutch of eggs.

Her choice of nest was a patio chair!

I ended up obtaining some fertilised eggs and placed them underneath her. Soon enough after three weeks one of them hatched into a sweet little Leghorn-cross chicky I named Chamomile.
I placed Mum and Baby into their own nursery coop for a month or so, after that they integrated with the rest of the flock on their own.

Clover has not gone broody since. None of the rest have gone broody either, but I am watching out for it. When it happens again I'll try to get more fertilised eggs.
