I just thought this was funny so had to share. I have a coturnix that went broody. If that's not odd enough, it's a male. I know the chances of him staying on the nest and/or actually raising the chicks is very low so I'll be keeping a very close eye on him.

This is absolutely adorable! I've never seen anything like this from quail. Does he have a mate? None of my quail have ever went broody. I love this.

Well I've had a long string of bad luck with my quail ever since I moved last year. He used to be in the run with 13 others. There were three males and the rest female (because of all the space they never fought). High winds took the top off the run and I guess in the storm the birds spooked and flew out. Now all that is left is 2 males and 2 females. I've got some chicks I hatched from the eggs from the full bunch in the brooder now to bring the numbers back up. I'll probably take these eggs from him soon because each egg is now very precious. I'll also be moving them as soon as I get a new coop/run built anyway. The new one with have a solid roof so no more worrying about the wind.

That's so sad but at least you had some left. I think it's precious. My male have never done this. I have an almost 3 year old and a 6 year old male and neither have done this or tried to. I know they "support" the girls when they are in egg "labor" but that's about it. He's a real cutie. Is he Italian? Luckily I've had better luck with mine since I did move. I absolutely love quail and having them around.

Yeah that was only the latest thing to happen. It's just been crazy. Yes, he looks very cute sitting on his little nest. I'm not sure what possessed him to brood.

I've had quail for alil over 6 years but never knew the male would brood. You have a unique one there.

Good news and bad news. Bad news is he was off the nest this morning. Not sure when he abondoned it as the eggs were cool to the touch but not cold. Good news is that they were all developing. Looks like they are pretty close to done too. I put them in the incubator so hopefully some will make it.

We have chicks! I was going to plug in my other incubator today in preparation for some hatching eggs and this morning I woke to chirping. I moved everyone over. When I was moving the eggs I heard chirping so hopefully a couple more will hatch. That silly broody boy is good.
