Broody drama- What happened???

Haha! I wondered about this too! Last year i had a broody hen hatch out a chicken peep and three ducklings! I was surprised. My ducks lay whereever they feel like it so i just thought i wasnt looking hard enough. And i kept checking under the broody to be sure there werent any eggs. I never saw a one. Now i know to check IN the shavings. She buries them. Lol dh was so mad thinking i had done it on purpose! I did set duck eggs under my silkie once, but she got up the last few days and none hatched. I am going to show him this thread to prove my innocence!

This thread cleared my husband of all charges too. When he was explaining to me that Georgia, the cochin, was off her nest and her eggs were gone, I could NOT understand how that was possible. Then when I found the numbered eggs scattered all over, I called him back up to the coop and asked him what in the heck he had done! Ha ha ha. He swore up and down that he hadn't moved a dang egg and I actually said "Oh yeah, because these hens rolled them up and down and back and forth with their little beaks!"

Then, when the first replies came, I 'fessed up and said "Oh, I guess they did".

Good news is that he's still willing to help me in the chicken coop, despite my allegations.

Well, I separated the two longest setting of my broodies tonite and one of them just up and quit. I mean she bolted out of the hen house and set about free ranging with the stragglers, then went in to the old coop and got up on the roost. Well, how about that! I couldn't put 10 additional eggs under my little cochin, so I grabbed a buff orp who had tried to take over a nest yesterday and put her in the box with the eggs... I sure hope she really felt broody or else I'm afraid at what I might find in the a.m.
