broody ducks?

Well I have a runner duck that goes broody quite a bit and has hatched her own babies. They lay quite well but I just hadn't expected any of them to go broody as they seem sort of neurotic....lol.

i also heard muscovys do but i dont have any there arnt my fav. i am getting 2 runners though. what about buffs or campbells? i am getting some of them also

I just checked Holderreads book. Except for Muscovys the only ducks rated excellent for Mothering ability are the bantam breeds: Australian Spotted, Calls, East Indies, and Mallards.
But Buffs are in the Fair to Good category at least!
Campbells and Runners he describes as Poor to Fair. (I guess it depends on the hen somewhat.)

Muscovies are excellent mothers. I know some people just north of here that are always being over run because their girls set so much. If you don't like Muscovies there are some tricks to get a duck to set (only 2 people have attempted said tricks and both were successful). I personally have 5 broody pekins, one who will set almost ALL summer!
