I have a broody bantam who has been sitting for about two weeks and I’m wondering if I were to put some eggs under her now if she’d continue to incubate them? Or will she only sit for 21 days? Just got some shipped Serama eggs and I’d like to incubate some naturally but I won’t put them under her if she’ll suddenly stop. She’s on the nest all night too. Thank you.

I’m sure she would continue to sit in my experience my hens will sit on the eggs until they hatch so if you were to put eggs under her I’m sure it will be okay. Hope this helps

Thank you. Honestly I’m not exactly sure how long she’s been sitting but 2 weeks should be close. I fenced her off inside the bantams coop so the other hens wouldn’t mess with her or the eggs I plan to put under her but my dear hubby just informed me he left eggs under her and he’s not sure whe he stopped picking them up, plus he put another hen in with her!! I’m not happy about this but he said the new hen wanted in bad. Men!! So I’m heading out to remove the extra hen.

If she has fertile eggs under her, I would candle them to see if they're developing and how far along they are. If they hatch earlier she would like!y abandon those that haven't hatched, ie your new serama eggs.
Thank you, I hadn’t thought of that. She’s sitting two eggs right now so I’ll candle them because hubby decided to let her keep some but he can’t remember when they were laid. I have a bad back and neck but it looks like I’d better keep track of what he’s doing with MY chickens. Lol.

so the extra hen he put in looks exactly like the broody girl so I don’t know who to remove. The chicken he put in there is about 6 months old. I’ll waituntil after dark and see if both hens are in the nest. I love this man dearly but at times... lol. It’s all good.

If the second hen is also broody, and more recently so, I’d consider putting the shipped eggs under her. Chickens can’t count, but their instincts are pretty strong. I had a hen that used to go broody a coupe of times a summer. If I didn’t give har any eggs, she’d still quit trying to set about 21 days in. That doesn’t mean yours will, but I would suggest you have a backup plan I’m case she does quit.

Thank you. I’ve decided to put all the Serama eggs in the incubator because most have air cell problems. So the breeder told me to incubate all of them upright. But now I’ll have two more mix breed bantams because the eggs in the coop are developing. I can’t bring myself to just throw them out.
