Hello I have a game hen "type" of hen. I believe that she is going broody. She is spending most of her time in a nest, she is very defensive to those who try to reach into the nest that she is in. I'm not sure because she is not clucking like my last broody and she is not puffed up. Do you think she is just in the beginning stages of being broody? Maybe the clucking and puffy will follow when she is totally in the broody zone, or is she already there and game hens don't go broody like some other breeds? I suppose all hens are allowed to be a little different.

Game hens typically go broody all the time. (Or a least mine do, hahah ) This may be the beginning of broody behavior, so maybe wait a few days and see? hope this helps.

Natural instinct is to be quiet. Unless another chicken is approaching the nest or there are chicks hatched out. If it is really a game, and it is on the nest at roost time, it is broody. I will order eggs online when I have one lay six eggs, because I know she will be setting when she hits 10 or 12. When she is on them at night, I know she will be there until something hatches under her.

I ended up putting her in a broody breaker and she broke broody pretty quick.

Today almost a month later, she is at it again. I decided to give her 8 eggs out of some hens that I wouldn't mind having some babies out of. My Cream legbars roo has hopefully fertilized those hens.:D. If we have Chickie's :wee running around
My DH will be like:he :barnie
and I'll be like:confused:
We can see if we can sell them:yesss:
Or I can put them in my pastured freeloader pin rase them up to be enrolled in freezer camp.
