I have my first broody girl. Naturally, she's in the favorite nesting box. I want sure for a couple days if she was really broody or not (I really wanted her to be!) so I didn't move her. She has accumulated A LOT not eggs and I haven't been brave enough to reach under. I was able to mark a few that were on the edge, but that's it. It's now day 6, do I glove up and candle on day 7 or 10? And what do I do with eggs that are fertilized and not hayfields when the others hatch? I've started closing the doors to the coop so the others can't get in, but she can get out and have put food and water with her... help!

Within 24 to 36 hours after the first egg hatches, most hens will leave the nest to access feed for the chicks. Be prepared to incubate any remaining eggs if you wish to save them. Staggered hatches are usually a disaster.
