Broody grey andulision

I noticed my andulision was broody. Got her a dozen hopefully fertile eggs. I didnt check them as i dont know how. She has been sitting on them since sunday night when i moved her to a dog crate with food and water and space for her to get up and poop and strech her legs. Shes also sitting on two eggs she had been hoarding. When do i check to see if they are fertle? The person i bought from said they were laid on saturday. I am so excited and yet so nervious first time giving a broody eggs. First time also having eggs hatch. Closest ive had is 3 day old chicks as newborns. What do i look for in the eggs or do i just let her be? Ive candled tortise eggs before but all you look in those for are the air bubble and a spec basically eventually you cant see threw the egg except for the air sac and the veins. However you dont turn the tortise eggs. Btw do i need to turn the eggs? Or will momma do it?

Personally, i don't interfere with momma - she generally knows what she's doing. I leave her free to come and go from the nest as and when she pleases, and let her do all the hard work.

Some of my birds can be well b*tches lol. So i have her locked up for her own good. Shes still kinda low in in the pecking order so i dont want her to be bothered. I am soooo excited i want to know how many chickee poos ill get but i guess i can wait till they hatch sighs

Ah, i understand and good idea to keep her away from the flock. Yep, its a very long 21 days - seems more like 42!

I have a pen where some chicks that arent as big as id like them to be before going with the grownups. I thinj there refered to as teens? Anyways once she hopefully hatches i will either turn thise birds out with the rest of the flock or set up a seperate area for her and her chicks. It is better if i leave the chicks with mom for awhile right? Gosh i hope my coops put together by then. My backyard is a disaster were remodeling the chicken coop and run.

Don't separate momma from her chicks - she will decide when she's had enough of them. If they hatch in the main coop, the little ones should be fine with the protection of mum, but you may need a separate area so they can access starter feed and water. I have used a small crate in the past to serve as their "feeding / sleeping quarters" (kept in the main coop) which i leave open during the day so mum can take her chicks out and about. We all do things differently and according to our circumstances.
