Broody guinea hen?

So i've got to know what happened?!! I'm in a broody guinea situation myself. How did this turn out?

CA Peeps,, boy are you right. A friend of mine decided rather than take the eggs and let me incubate them to let the hen do it. Well she went to collect her keets and momma got her in the face. took 2 people to hold her off while she collected the keets. I had to laugh once I saw she was ok. Then she put them in a building with a brooder and the hen and a couple of others of her collection kept trying to attack. Its been 2 weeks now and all is fine.

After reading on here I thought I was well prepared to get my keets from momma, but I had no idea just how crazy the keets could, would get. Sophia always let me into the pen with her and the keets so me going in was no problem. I then herded her into a cage and quickly shut the door. I then began gathering up the keets as they were all running, wing climbing up the chainlink, getting tangled in the net covering the pen. I then figured out to stoop still and wait and as they each ran up to the momma's cage I was able to catch them and put them in a separate cage. The keets were going to a new home with much more acreage then I have so I was glad for them, but sad for momma. She made a racket as long as she could hear the keets but as soon as they were loaded up in the car and she couldn't hear them, she settled down. I then let her out of her cage and let her join the rest of the guineas. I only had 11 keets and I can't imagine trying to get more then that away from a guinea mom.

I haven't decided if I am going to let her hatch out any more BUT if I do I will only let her set on 7 eggs. I have a silkie that went broody and I just set 5 guinea eggs under her today. I think having a silkie hatch out and raise them will be much easier to deal with then dealing with a guinea momma.

Usually Guinea eggs take 26-28 days to hatch. Some can hatch a day or 2 early, some can hatch a day or 2 late, but usually day 26/27 is a hatch frenzy in my hatcher.

thank-you! I just bought some guinea eggs here, wanted to set them with some chicken eggs. Will try it!

I know lots of people that set Guinea and Chicken eggs together in the same incubator, they just set the Guinea eggs 5-7 days earlier so they can all be locked down at the same time

Good luck!

Peeps, what color variety are those keets in your avatar? I have 2 coral blue hens and a white male, and all of my keets this season look exactly like the ones in your avatar.

Thanks in advance.
