My Frizzle Cochin bantam went missing. I found her under their coop, setting on eggs. I left her there because I had no way of getting her out! So, this morning I walked into the bantam pen and found a dead hatchling, still damp, in the middle of the ground about 2 feet from the coop. Poor baby, not sure what happened, except maybe mom left him to his own devices and refused to leave the nest.

Anyway, Irene is on her way and will hit my area in about 12 hours or so. I am so hoping that the rest of the clutch don't hatch until Monday afternoon or they won't make it. The rain we are supposed to get will soak and or drown the poor hatchlings.

May have been an early hatched egg where the chick needed food, but mom won't leave nest until the rest hatch. Or the chick lacked the basic instinct to stay with mom and just wandered.

Remember, normally they can go without food for a couple of days, so as long as they are warm enough under there, they should be fine.

Hope all the rest make it.
