I let my girls/boys out, I shut the coop at night, and same as the last few days, my broody australorp hen comes out clucking and eats etc. This time however she takes quite a longer time, clucking and dustbathing and running back to food then back to water trough repeateledly. I was worried she had given up on her eggs.
I was sitting outside several minutes later and heard a scream in the coop. I went in there and saw my hen fussing next to her nest, where Dandy, my biggest hen was laying an egg in her nest. I grab the hen who screams protest and drop her outside and her egg in another box, and then Australorp (I have yet to name her, she is new ish) returns to the nest.
Close call.
