Broody Hen Adoption of Chicks

Well to be honest. I didn't say it before but my broody adoptions last year were a week old when i got them and the hatchling was about a week and a half. So if imprinting sad that big of a factor mine should have never worked. Yours are young they aren't sure what to do with a mama yet. As long as she's talking to them give her a chance to show them first. My mama had to get a little mean with a few anf physically push them under her self the first few days. It worse she would go over to an onry and just walk over it and sit down on top of it. If she's happy she will teach them. She might still be trying to sort things out as to when she needs to start getting them up and moving to eat and drink too

Awesome! That just gave me a lot of confidence!

tHINK ABOUT IT ...it is a learning curve ..the chicks have never seen a hen ...and she pecked them ..they all dont trust her yet . this is normal for the hen to peck them back in a first .. it takes a day or two for her to get out of the laying mode .into the feeding mode
The ornery one may be a roo or just slower than the others

We have a successful adoption!!!!!!! Yay! Got home and all three babies have clearly accepted mom and are one big happy family. She is teaching them food and nudging them to go where she wants and they are listening to her and crawling all over her up on her head and her back and her wing, then when they get tired they burrow under her for a nap. Everyone is happy. Thank goodness. Thanks for everyone’s help.
