Broody hen and chicken mom with issues

That's the hope, but I've already said to hubby with my luck I will end up with 6 roos!

My brother has asked for one roo as he doesn't have one yet, so that helps. Realistically I guess nature will throw up a 50/50 sort of ratio. If we get any pullets we will be keeping them all, any extra roos will be sent to market.

Day 16 today. The wait is killing me!

You've done well with your candling. I smashed the eggs I threw out to double check they were not viable. Nothing could grow in that stench, lol.

3 is a nice little number to start off with I reckon. Right now if I get 1 live chick I will be stoked! My broody deserves at leats 1 baby after all her hard work. I would be devastated for her if none hatch.....

My hubby would send my roo to market today if he could, and the hens to keep him company. I keep telling him Igor eats bugs, protects the hens, and scares off magpies. He says "not worth the noise and bird poop" but he's building them a chicken palace and when I'm not looking he out there feeding the birds mealworms... the big softy :love

And LOL about the smashing. I did the same thing. Wanted to make sure I came to the right conclusion, I was afraid of the smell or the dog trying to eat it :sick Luckily the smell wasn't too bad and the dog had a ball.

The waiting is the worst!!! I just might have to take a sick day to watch the hatch!

We've made it to day 20 and my little girl is no longer Gertrude or little miss. Her new name is Birdzilla!

Day 19 was a go to work early and come late so other than a quick trip from the shed to the deck and back there wasn't much interaction. By bedtime, she was tired, like me, and not in the mood to show attitude. Today though, it's a whole different ball game! She's hissing and biting and going for blood. There has to be something going on underneath her... Why oh why didn't I put her in a glass bottomed nesting box! I'd pick her up and look but I'm honestly a bit afraid of her right now

Patience, grasshopper, have patience! With luck there will be three little babies in the next day or two :fl That's easy to say but following it is something different!

The babies are here! Yesterday I was on the verge of giving up, thinking all was lost, especially since it was day 23? and Mom came running out and didn't want to go back to the eggs. I took a look at the eggs, they had cracks, so around the house I went one more time. Mom followed and settled on the eggs for a long wait. Hubby took me out to dinner because I was bothering him and Gertrude, the mom. By morning there was sweet chirping and two little fluff balls. Now we're just waiting on number three! Hatch little guy! Hatch!
