broody hen BROKE two eggs?

My husband brought a broody home from my SIL's ranch. He set her on 11 eggs and provided food and water within her confined area. Today, she got up from her eggs and I noticed that she broke TWO. I have no idea if she ate them or if it happen my accident, but is this NORMAL. Dh tries to justify the egg cracking/breaking by saying that they were probably no good. I tell him that a good momma hen would NEVER break her eggs, no matter what. What is normal and what isn't?
