I have an almost 2 yr old BO hen (the first of my 8 hens to go broody) that went broody about a week ago. She was either #1 or #2 at the BOTTOM of the pecking order. She moves around between the three nests. I remove eggs from the nests several times a day and whatever is under her at sunset. (I tried putting her on the roost at night, but it didn't seem to have any impact - she was back in the nest in the morning).

We have no rooster. I don't want any chicks right now. AND - I have nowhere to keep her by herself or any way to keep just her out of the nests.

If I just keep removing all the eggs every day, will she get tired in a couple of weeks and give up??

Thanks for your help and insight!

She may.

Try tossing her out of the coop, that broke mine. It took a few times a day for 1-2 weeks.
Many people break their broodies by putting them in a wire cage so the butts get cold.

Well if you have no rooster, then you don't have to worry about hatching chicks.
The best thing to do is to wait until the rest of the hens have layed their eggs, then put something on the nest box opening so she wont be able to get in. she will eventually give up once she cant get in to the nest.

I have to put my broodies in to what we call Solitary. That is a reference to the movie Chicken Run. Still I have found that the only thing that breaks a brood is to put the hen in a small pen or cage without a nest in it. I always make sure that she has food and water. She just can't go back to the nest. It can take up to 2 days to break the brood, but it always seems to work.
