My eggs got here and I slipped them under my broody yesterday. Love the math, that means my babes are due on a Saturday (cool!) May 21st. We're setting on Polish eggs, and hoping for WC Black, Blue & maybe with some luck, a Crele!

It's our first time to get eggs and hatch them, so DD & I are super excited. Anyone else on track to hatch right around us? With a broody too??

I have a broody too, but she will be due in about ten days if I did my math right. She only has about 4 eggs. I may give her a few extra if I have any out of the bator at the same time.

I have a broody hen to. She is sitting on 13 eggs.
That are due May 19.
She will be a new mom.She is my first hen to be broody.

Sunshinesweetbee: My guess is that the humidity's too low. In the past, it's been my #1 killer of chicks after day 18. If the humidity's too low, then the membrane dries and "shrink wraps" the chick, preventing it from hatching. So you'll want to replace the red plugs if you previously removed them, and open the incubator only when you HAVE to (even then, make it fast). And don't let the the water trays get dry. FYI, a chick/duckling will be fine if left in the bator 24-36 hours after hatching. Best of luck to you!

I have eggs in the incubator that are due on May 11th and then on May 21st!

I hope you have a great hatch!

So is anyone else planning to candle? What days do you do this? I've heard 7 and 10, but just not sure

Welcome Sunshine! Sounds like you'll have a big batch of babies if all 13 make it, Yeah! What type of hen do you have sitting?

In general, the lighter the egg the earlier you can candle, and it depends on how good a light you have. My medium brown eggs I usually can cull the clears by 7 days. The darker ones sometimes I can't tell until later. White eggs you can see sometimes as early as 3 days, but I don't have confidence in my candling yet to discard anything at 3 days. But I have found that with practice my accuracy gets better. I candle say at day five and separate what I think are clears, then I recheck later to see if I was right. My percentages get better all the time.

Ok, we're 2/3rds of the way there! I did pitch one egg after candling, and when I cracked it I could see that it had not started developing.

How is everyone else fairing so far??
