Broody hen - expected hatch date May 21 ~ anyone else?

My broody hatch is due the 20th. Her first as well as mine. I am so excited. I did candle once but I really don't know what I am doing. Maybe I will try again. I just read a post on here about using a stethescope to listen for a heartbeat. I might try that since I have one.

I have 4 little buckeye chicks under my buckeye hen, and lo and behold, I've got two more broody buckeyes. I also have 4 chicks under a barred Japanese bantam.

I candled my Guinea eggs... all 48 are alive and growing on day 19!

I also started another bator full of Guinea eggs due 5/30. I candled them, and found that only 33 out of 48 are alive on day 10.

I collected this hatch from a different flock of older birds... Oh well.

Just had 7 hatch yesterday and last night. Pretty much mutts, Auracana, Buff Orp, Some Polish Crested in there somewhere, etc.etc.

I have 24 eggs in the incubator due on May 22nd/May 23rd. I never count right on hatching days. Sigh.
Anyway, I have 8 ameraucanas, 12 olive eggers and 4 easter eggers. As of the last candling two nights ago, all 24 were developing. Fingers crossed!

caseybloo~ COngrats on your successful hatch! You know we'll want to see pix to tide us over until our own clutches hatch

After pitching another egg that hadn't developed, and now all but one look questionable to me, I'm getting ready to go with Plan B. I will be bidding on a batch of day old chicks. If I win, they should arrive on Wed. and then after the one viable egg hatches, I'll add these chicks under her wings that night

Hopefully no one (momma hen or DH) will be the wiser and I'll still get a decent little flock of babies

We have 12 eggs set to hatch under a broody hen next Saturday, too. These are a crazy farmer market friend's mix of chicks. They should be cute, some sebright and japanese bantam mixes. Fun Fun!

We are in and will keep everyone posted. Our broody is a bantam ameraucana.
