Broody hen - expected hatch date May 21 ~ anyone else?

WOW! Such great hatching updates everyone!!

ChicknCharm - It's awesome that your early hatchers weren't lost to drowning, must have had a guardian chick angel on duty!

SuziQ - WOO HOO on your hatches! Do you think I should move my broody girl off her nest for her regular eat & poop break this afternoon? Her eggs are due to hatch today, and I'm not sure????? What did you do?

Cowgirl - I didn't know that Guinea babies were called "Keats" - learn something new everyday! Sorry to hear you lost one, even with a big hatch, every loss is a sad one.

I'm at work, and won't have news until at least this afternoon. And I'm curious too about the "moving the broody & babies" question too. I kinda was planning on letting her stay in the pet taxi for a day or so, but when I add the 10 extra chicks I don't want it to be too crowded. So I just don't know . . . . . . what have you all decided to do??

Hi I've just joined. This is my first broody hatching, yesterday produced 3 beautiful chicks!

I forgot Guineas could ever be this cute...

In my earlier posts, I wasn't sure if the word keet was spelled "keet" or "keat." So I used both!

But I just looked it up in Webster's, and it's spelled "keet." FYI!
Happy hatching everyone!!!

Do you mind if I join you all? I missed this thread somehow!
Can't wait to see all the pictures of the broodies and babies! I had 3 broodies, and 2 have hatched in the past couple days. The other one is due today.
Here is # 1
This is when I first discovered the hatch ...

Here's my broody mama (black cochin) .... with her 6 Delaware chicks (all girls, of course). One is hiding.

Next day, I went outside to see the broody and chicks. DS had let them outside. I panicked for a moment, as I only saw the mama sitting there. Then, I saw 2 chicks come out from under her ....

Then there were 3 .....

Within a couple minutes the mama was up and all 6 were out ....

This is # 2 ...

This is what I did .... I took the hatched chicks from # 1 and # 2 and I put all the chicks with # 1, then I put all the eggs left with # 2, so that is why she is still sitting. They both started the same day, so I am only gonna let her sit until morning, then I am gonna pull the eggs. # 3 might have chicks by morning .... we will see!

Twelve of the 23 are out and three more have pipped.

One blue easter egger, two splash or light blue ameraucanas, two blue ameraucanas and 7 black olive eggers (that is, olive eggers that will be feathered black)

Everyone is still fluffing out in the bator. I'll try for pictures tomorrow!

I love my broody DOT. I shouldn't wonder about what a good job she is doing because she was such a good little sitter and a wonderful mommy so far. I think Broody is the best way to go for a few chicks at a time!!!!!
