I had a super broody 2.5 year old Australorp. I'm fairly sure she's gone broody multiple times (leg band fell off so I can't be certain), so I finally got her 7 fertilized eggs to hatch. She was broody for about 10 days before I gave her the eggs, and she very happily accepted them. She was the ideal mama to be - protective and dedicated. Fast forward to day 14 (today), and she's been off the nest since mid-morning (it's now almost 2pm). She seems to have abandoned. It's very hot here today - the temperature next to the nest is registering at around 94, but I'm not sure how accurate the reading is.
So, is there any hope of survival at that temperature? Could she just be taking a break during the heat of the day? Should I pull them and if so what the heck do I do with them (no incubator)? Can I put her back on the nest and lock the door?
Any advice?
