I have a broody hen who has been this way for a couple days now. We have her in "chicken jail" since Wednesday (7/25). Her "cell" is a wire pet carrier raised on 2x4 blocks to let the air circulate underneath. I did this because she was monopolizing the 1 nesting box that everyone uses even though there's 3. I have read that putting them in cool water for 5 minutes will also break this cycle. I gave her a "broody bath" this morning and she's back into solitary. I will give her another bath tomorrow if this continues. Anything else I can do? Thanks in advance.

Nope, it's just the battle of the wills. Sometimes the human wins, sometimes the chicken.

Poor thing's underside is all bare from her plucking herself. When she was outside her "cell" a couple of the "mean girls" could come peck the back of her neck. Solitary is as much for her protection as keeping the nesting box open.

A few "broody baths" and a week in solitary did it! I wasn't sure who would win the battle of the wills, but I did. How long before she starts laying again?
