We have an Australorp that's gone broody. She's a settin' on some eggs. She's going to sit for about 3 weeks, right? What do I do with her? Do I offer water? Feed? We're just letting her set. She make chipmunk sounds. lol!

I offer mine food & water within reach of where she's nesting; so far I can tell she's eating & drinking & I've seen her off the nest once.
I am taking the "let nature take it's course" & leaving her alone otherwise.
3 wks is the hatch time, give or take a day or so.

Generally I do not provide feed or water that can be reached from the nest. When you do so, some hens will refuse to leave the nest and foul it with their feces. If you don't see her leaving the nest, remove her daily so that she eats, drinks, and DEFECATES. If other hens have access to the nest (not a good idea), mark the eggs in the nest so that any that are added may be remoived so as to avoid a staggered hatch. Relax and enjoy your broody. She knows what she is doing through genetic programming.
