I think I have a broody hen, she repeatedly goes in the nesting area. When I take her off she just lays on the floor and then after a while starts moving again. Then she starts ruffling her feathers a lot and scratching her beak on the ground. At first, I thought she was sick, but since she always returns to the same nesting area and is very vocal, I am guessing broodiness. I am taking her off from the area repeatedly. I finally got tired and blocked access to the spot. Hubby though is worried because the nesting place she uses to brood is also used by other chickens to lay eggs so he is concerned that the others may start laying eggs outside somewhere because their favorite nesting spot is blocked. My point is if she always lays there it is blocked any way as no chicken can lay there anyhow since she is there! There are other areas to lay eggs, so hopefully the other chickens will adjust.

I also, blocked access to the area because it is 100 degrees today, the area indoors is hot and I am afraid she does not drink. I also read that the body temperature of a broody hens gets high too so imagine how hot this poor chicken must be! And of course, I blocked access too because I am tired of moving her out of the place every half hour! Any ideas if I did good to block access to the area? Any tips on how to deal with this issue? It wouldn't be as worrisome if it happened in the winter but we have a heat wave and I am concerned about her! Any help is appreciated, I love my hens!

Read my last posts, I to have a broody lol, she blocks the nest from my girls and there laying everywhere now. Yes your girl is broody and there for your going to have to pen her up so the other girls can get to the box but she can not. I got this so I can now fence my girl up during the day. Hoping she will stop brooding ad allow everyone back into the next box .
( it's a huge nest box that fits 3/5 hens) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/im...?ie=UTF8&color_name=2&img=MAIN&s=pet-supplies

That's a cute idea! I was planning in placing her in my dog's spacious extra-large crate but I just found out that she has worms! She made a liquid poo and there were these transparent thingies wriggling! I just ordered VERMX, hopefully it will take care of the problem. To make things worse, i now don't feel like keeping her in the crate with these wormy poos, yuck!

my hens never poo in crates, as they sit on the bottom and not on a roost. my mom has this coop I bought her for her 2 chickens and they sleep in the nesting box lol. and get this, they have never pooped in it. they go out in the morning and poop big but never in there coop. I would treat her and all the other birds to. that way you kill all the worms at one time.
