We have a Black Americana hen (name Rietta), 3-4 years old, who went broody on the 14th. We put her in the time out cage in the garage on the 16th and kept her there 4 days. She looked like the broodiness broke, so we put her back outside with the flock. She hasn't laid an egg since the 15th and has gone back to sitting in a nest constantly. Do we need to re-isolate her in the cool garage area to break the broodiness? Thanks!

We did use the dog crate method, but it had a plastic tray covering the bottom. We put a little straw in there, with food and water, and even put in a perch. She laid in front of the fan which had a bowl of ice in front of it, for three days. She did get up on the perch, but moved back and laid in front of the fan. Guess she's going to need a few more days in time out. Thanks for the reply!

I haven't broke a broody yet. I always find a reason to hatch more chicks... Cursed with chicken math 🤣

Hopefully you get your girl sorted. 👍

Just throwing it out there that I throw my boys on craigslist for $5. each and they go fast.

But I'm not arguing with your wife's logic. 🙂
I don't argue either, that's why I've lived this long!:old We have a tendency to get too close to these babies. By the time one of those little chicks was found out to be a rooster, they'd be named, loved, and pampered - plus we would have a video archive of their first steps, first flight, first watermelon...................:jumpySigh!

I'm right there along side ya, I'm trying to get into breeding and selling. The wife says I'm "breeding and keeping"

Back to rule #1... I'm not arguing with her. 🤣
