This thread was very helpful. I just went out this morning to check on the first pipped egg. I guess during the night the hen crushed the egg. There was yolk all over the other egg, and blood on the neck area. It wasnt quite ready yet so it died. She is a first time broody.I took the other 2 eggs and put them in the incubator.I have a buff Orpington that just killed her newly hatched chick this am. So sad. Poor little thing was just laying there dead. I removed it but I'm scared for the other 2 that are left. Do I move them now or wait to see if she kills them too? So disappointed.
Should i give them back to her after they hatch? will she accept them since the nest is empty right now.?
