Hi
I need advice ASAP about when and how to move a broody hen into a different house to hatch her chicks?

It's going to depend upon the hen. Some will quit if you move them, some just go with the flow. I'd get everything set up than move her at night. She won't move during the night and hopefully that's enough time to make her want to stay.

I didn't move my hens, after all the eggs hatched I moved mama and babies to a rabbit cage on coop floor. In 3 days I opened the door on the cage and mama is taking great care of the chicks. I feel bad for any chicken who goes near the chicks, I guess Clarice is a good momma.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

I have found the best time to move a broody and her eggs is at night. Have the new area all ready. Move the eggs first and then smoothy move the broody, If she has to stay there all night in the new spot, usually she stays. But be gentle and as quick as you can.

Good luck with your broody hatch!

I never move my broody hens. I just leave them to get on with it. The chicks are raised by their mother in the flock. I never had any problems.

Welcome to BYC! We have a lot of very experienced chicken owners here, but we do not always reach a consensus as you can see. "Different strokes for different folks" as they say (or maybe in this case, "different tricks for different chicks"). :o) For myself, I never moved a broody hen and her eggs, but I guess this just goes to prove that old axiom "there's more than one way to skin a cat" (of course chickens are in view here, not cats). :o) Anyway, good luck with your broody hen and the rest of your flock.
