Hello,
I have a silkie that has been trying to go broody since early spring, so I finally let her lay on 6 eggs for the last few weeks. To my surprise today, I have a new chick...lol...., My question is should I segregate them from the rest of the flock, or just let her naturally raise the chicks within the community?
Thanks...

Sure....here are a few pix... She has 5 more potential hatches still underneath her...

I've done both. When I had my birds in an acre pasture with a large community barn, I let them stay with the flock. Very little fighting because there was plenty of space. Now I'm in a different place. Small runs with different size houses. Because there is little space, the mothers tend to fight more. So I seperate them.

Its really your call. The broody will need a place to sleep on the ground. Make sure the chicks can follow her in the barn at night. She will usually go to bed a little earlier than the rest of the flock. Good luck with the chickies.
